To try and fill out the gap, I worked hard to find SOMETHING from the ‘50s. I found out about this film and, given that the notoriously bad Hercules in New York was supposed to be a parody of the Greek strongman films like this (but was referred to by this video guide as being the butt of its own joke), I thought The Last Days of Pompeii might at least be entertainingly lame.

Naw, I was just bored. I ultimately subjected it to the same test I did San Francisco. When there was less than an hour left and this volcano movie still hadn’t started volcanoing, I gave up.

A few points for somewhat nice looking Southern European sets and for the novelty of watching one of these Steve Reeves strongman movies. Still, entirely forgettable.

Bottom Line: Yawn.

Up Next: The 1970s’ turn!
