I’ll defer you to my video review first:
That is pretty much all I had to say, although I’ll add that it was the last PAIR of shots that I loved. I was referring in the video to ***SPOILERS*** the Thrombeys looking up in unison at the mansion that is no longer theirs but it wouldn’t have meant anything without the following shot of Marta up on her new balcony looking down on everyone while enjoying her tea. ***SPOILERS***
I’ll also add Jaden Martell to the list of notable actors playing members of the family; had no idea he was the main kid in the It movies.
Of course the top-billed actor in the film is Daniel Craig, whom I forgot to mention due to my focus on the onscreen family. Many people loved his accent. I didn’t think much of it – I thought it was some generic European accent and was surprised to find out later it was supposed to be Southern. My confusion was partly caused by Daniel Craig’s being European in real life and partly because…well why would any Southerner be named “Benoit Blanc”?
It only added to my confusion when Ransom (Chris Evans’s character) referred to him as “Foghorn Leghorn” because he certainly sounded nothing like Foghorn Leghorn.
That’s some stereotypical farmer voice whereas this was supposed to be some “honey-voiced” scholar-type. Apparently it’s based on a voice narrating one of the Ken Burns documentaries. The script simply said “Southern accent” apparently, which helps explain Ransom’s attempt at a putdown as written.
I’m just making observations though; not critiques. The movie’s basically perfect.
Bottom Line: Astonishing!
