This movie is…different. Well liked though. It’s $678 million gross easily brought Marvel a profit before the movie even left theaters and it nabbed an 89% approval at RT.

I’ll admit I had mixed feelings the first time I watched it. I’ve talked about how the less connected to our real world a story is the less likely I am to get invested in it and the first time I watched Doctor Strange I was left thinking “So this is a guy who can do basically anything and he does…stuff?”

Still, even then I really liked the portions showing Strange’s human interactions, especially with his love interest Christine (might just be me but I find female doctors really hot). It’s heartbreaking seeing the star-crossed lovers but great watching Strange’s evolution as a character in more ways than one. Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel McAdams play their parts beautifully.

As far as all the metaphysical parts, I approached it with an open mind since I was determined to rewatch the entire MCU. I liked them a lot more this time! All the things Stephen learns as he harnesses the full potential of his body are awe-inspiring, and the visual effects certainly help. The supporting actors do a great job helping us understand the new worlds opened up to Strange and this time I could clearly follow that he was given the Time Infinity Stone and thus could control time. His use of that ultimately becomes brilliant and entertaining.

Game: One Oscar winner (Tilda Swinton), three nominees (Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejifor, Rachel McAdams)

Up next: Beyond Earth again but in a different way.

Bottom line: Very unique, even among comic book movies, and I recommend it.
