Deadpool

I wondered whether I should include the Deadpool movies, but decided if New Mutants is included all branches of the series should be.

While Deadpool’s story in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was widely criticized, the negativity was directed towards the writing, not towards Ryan Reynolds, whose star only continued to grow.

My boy Wade tried for years to be an actor. Isn’t he a dead ringer? Even the exact same age as Ryan Reynolds. Sometimes a little luck can make all the difference.

Eventually Fox decided to give him his own standalone film that gave Deadpool an origin story true to the comics and was the rare R-rated comic book movie. That meant we could not only get Reynolds making jokes throughout, but they would be as raunchy as the writers wanted, and we could get some nudity (female, not just him). There is also a plot, with some action, but I don’t remember it, other than the fact that it was fun!

I remember when this film came out there was an uproar from parents who took their children to see Deadpool and were shocked by all the inappropriate content, not realizing that a comic book movie is not necessarily for kids. Especially not if it’s R-rated people!

Bottom Line: A fun, raunchy adult comic book movie.
