I was originally thinking this series would just be Knives Out and Clue. Then I was thinking of adding Murder Mystery, and maybe I should have just left it at that, considering I didn’t like any of the other movies I hadn’t seen before enough to even finish.

In any case, I’m at Clue now. What an awesome time! I remember after the friend Christian I often mention, his friend Mike, and I watched Gosford Park (my idea, sorry guys) Mike commented that Clue was better than Gosford Park.  I’ve since realized that whether someone prefers Clue or Gosford Park is a foolproof test of whether that person’s a pretentious twit!

My praise of Clue comes with the caveat that people not familiar with the board game might not enjoy it as much. Still, I can’t imagine even them not liking it at all, and that counts for something considering there are movies like Battleship despised even by fans of the board game.

So, we have one set – a gorgeous house with all the amenities.* More importantly, we have a stellar cast of comic actors embodying the parts – Christopher Lloyd as Professor Plum, Martin Mull as Colonel Mustard, Lesley Ann Warren as Miss Scarlet, Eileen Brennan as Mrs. Peacock, Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White, and, best of all, Michael McKean as hapless Mr. Green. We also have a variety of actors playing house servants or people who ill-advisedly drop by, and Tim Curry is actually the star as the butler.

What a plot! Someone gets killed, people’s attempts to control the situation things get zanier and zanier, and the comedy amazingly rises in proportion to the blood shed! It all leads to the endingS. There were three filmed, and in the theaters it was random which one you would get. All of them are available for people watching on video (either physical or streaming) though, and I would recommend each one!

Last thing I’ll add is that I’m so glad someone gave Clue the cinematic adaptation it deserved. Here’s a picture from my quarantine birthday this year – I invited some neighbors and in our building’s rec room we opened the Simpsons Clue game I got for a previous birthday!

Bottom Line: Wonderful.

Up Next: Jumping ahead one last time.

*In 2017 I stayed at my rich cousin’s house for a big family event and, finding out my room was the conservatory, I commented that I felt like killing Colonel Mustard with the candlestick.
