Although I missed Knives Out when it was in theaters, when I finally watched it late last year I realized what I’d been missing. I absolutely love ensemble-murder-mystery-comedies! So much that I decided to review one for every decade going back to the dawn of film.
The earliest I was able to get was the 1900s (which is only one decade off from the very beginning anyway). This movie doesn’t exactly have a mystery, but it’ll do.
Basically a bunch of poor people steal money from each other in succession, and all learn how money is the root of all evil. It’s funny enough, part of the oeuvre of legendary director D.W. Griffith, and free on YouTube. The fact that there’s no background music on YouTube makes it a bit more dull than it should be, but it’s only nine minutes long so no big loss LOL.
Bottom Line: Watch it while microwaving your popcorn for a feature.
Up Next: Still on the silents.
